What is LEED?

Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design. LEED Canada for New Construction and Major Renovations is an adaption of the US Green Building Council's (USGBC) Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Green Building Rating System tailored specifically for the Canadian Climate, construction practices and regulations.

LEED promotes whole-building design practices, recognizes environmental leadership in building industry, stimulates green competition, raises consumer awareness of green building benefits and transforms the building market into a more environmentally responsible entity.

The CaGBC administers a LEED (Leadership In Energy and Environmental Design) rating system. This provides a comprehensive framework for assessing a buildings overall environmental performance. Points are earned during the certification process that leads to an award in the four levels of certification Platinum, Gold, Silver and Certified.
